Interview with StratNews Global.Tech

India's digital infrastructure is expanding at an unprecedented rate, but the legal frameworks governing it remain a fragmented patchwork. In this episode of Tech Matters, Nikhil Naren, Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law School and co-author of Technology, Law, Regulation, Cyber Policy, and the Digital Landscape, explains simply the gaps between rapid technological deployment and lagging policy.

While conversations about artificial intelligence often centre on innovation, Naren says that in India, there is always a rush to deploy rather than develop products. Another pressing threat is data security and protection. With laws such as the IT Act and Data Protection, Naren mentions that while we may not find an answer to everything, these laws are not completely toothless  As a nation striving to balance the drive for tech supremacy and citizen protection, India is still developing some of its laws while ensuring innovation is not curbed.

Watch the full discussion to understand the implications of India’s cyber policies, the illusion of safe harbours for tech platforms, and why regulating AI requires a fundamental shift toward principle-based ecosystem governance.

This podcast explores the growing influence of dark patterns, persuasive design, and click-driven consumer culture in India’s digital marketplaces. Through an engaging conversation, we unpack how behavioural nudges shape purchasing decisions, the legal safeguards available to consumers, and the evolving regulatory responses to deceptive online practices.
