Mr Nikhil Naren's professional journey seamlessly integrates law, technology, and society, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence [AI] law and governance, data protection, intellectual property, intermediary liability, online brand enforcement, and emerging technologies.
He is Assistant Director at the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation, Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law School, and Of Counsel at Scriboard. His work spans teaching, research, policy engagement, training, and consulting in technology and intellectual property law.
One of the youngest Chevening Scholars from India, he completed his LL.M. in Technology, Media and Telecommunications Law from Queen Mary University of London in 2022. He is also a recipient of the United Kingdom's Foreign Office’s Gold Award for Volunteering. He is a class of 2020 B.A.LL.B. graduate from Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA, where he received a record Pre-Placement Offer from Scriboard [Advocates and Legal Consultants] in 2018.
He has advised social networking platforms, e-commerce companies, PSUs, start-ups, and Fortune 100 and 500 companies on the Information Technology Act, intellectual property, contractual disputes, brand protection, privacy, data protection, and emerging technologies. He has also worked on Microsoft’s 'Cloud Legal Project' and consulted for the Digital Economy Capacity-Building Section of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development [UNCTAD].
His teaching and research examine how technological systems reshape rights, markets, institutions, and constitutional values. He has taught various facets of technology law at more than a dozen law schools, including credit courses at NLU Delhi, NLU Odisha, and WBNUJS Kolkata.
Mr Naren has delivered training sessions for HCLTech, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices, senior officers from the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology [MeitY], Judicial Officers at the Maharashtra Judicial Academy, Election Commission of India, among others. He is regularly invited by government bodies, universities, and leading organisations to consult and discuss policy on law, Artificial Intelligence, data protection and privacy, cybersecurity, and digital governance.
His writings and commentary have appeared in LiveMint, The Hindu, The New Indian Express, Firstpost, News18, The South First, and other national platforms.
Mr Naren has co-authored the books- Technology Law: Regulations, Cyber Policy, and the Digital Landscape, Law & Justice Publishing Co., 2025; Two editions of Artificial Intelligence and Law: Challenges Demystified, Law & Justice Publishing Co., 2024 & 2022; and Internet Law: Regulating Cyberspace and Emerging Technologies, Bloomsbury Professional India, 2020.
